What is The Jazz Half?
The Jazz Half has been in existence since May of 2007.
"The Half" (as it's affectionately known) is a full-time forum that's designed to broaden the presence of Jazz Music in Cincinnati by showcasing the Artists, their music, and the venues that feature them. Artist Showcases are made by way of exclusive interviews; providing the community with an opportunity to learn more about the many talented Jazz Musicians who professionally perform in the many different places throughout our city.
Showcases are also done in the form of show reviews. Those who are new to listening to live Jazz music have an opportunity to read a recent review before attending a show. This can help prepare them to learn what to expect, and listen for, when hearing live Jazz. A seasoned enthusiast can read the reviews to reference and compare with their own observations.
The Event Calendar keeps the community in tune with the many jazz events that occur throughout the city. As the Jazz Half's Founder mentioned in one of his early blogs, "It is also clear that now, as in years past, Cincinnati remains rich with jazz artists, venues, and listeners. It's there, if you look for it". And The Jazz Half intends to help you find it by providing an event calendar that's concentrated on Jazz, and ONLY Jazz events in our city. An event calendar is also ideal for those new to the city wanting to know where to go for some great jazz music.
Venues including Nightclubs, Restaurants, Libraries, and Community Centers understand a live performance is the absolute best way to experience music. They also understand featuring musicians is an excellent compliment to their business. Its important for the community to know who and where these venues are, along with additional information. The Venues page profiles the businesses, their address, phone number, a link to their website, and more.
Other showcasing methods include a Jazz Blog, a free newsletter, and more. Jazz is an original American artform, and must be preserved and appreciated. The musicians work very hard crafting their skill to deliver their distinct artistic interpretation of the music they love. We, as Jazz Enthusiasts, acknowledge this; and reciprocate by attending live events, purchasing their music whenever available, and more.
The Jazz Half attempts to be that vehicle, enabling the jazz enthusiast to reciprocate their appreciation for the artists and their music.
